Yountville – Classy Wine Town in the Napa Valley

Why We Like to Stay in Yountville

Yountville wineries

V Marketplace at Vintage 1870

There are many good reasons to make Yountville your destination town in the Napa Valley. There are several luxury and comfortable accommodations and all of these are within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and even a fitness center if you so desire. You can rent bikes and visit several nearby wineries without getting in your car.

Yountville Restaurants

One of the wonderful things about staying in Yountville is having a great choice of restaurants within easy walking distance. No need to worry about a designated driver or calling a taxi. We have eaten at all the restaurants in the main part of town except the French Laundry. At the top of our list is Redd’s  and Ad Hoc. The décor, setting, and food make Redd’s  a hot spot. If you want to dine here be sure to call ahead for reservations. Having a cocktail or an appetizer at the bar is also a fun thing to do. At Ad Hoc, famed French Laundry chef Thomas Keller has established a rather unusual restaurant protocol.  At Ad Hoc the menu is price fixed and it is a four-course meal that changes nightly. Whatever is on the menu for that night is that; there are no other selections.

Mustard’s Grill is a few miles away on Highway 29 and is a great choice for lunch or dinner. Famed chef and restaurateur Cindy Pawlcyn opened Mustard’s in 1984.

The French Laundry is, of course, world famous. This Three-Star Michelin restaurant is very popular, so book your dinner very far in advance. For more restaurants in Yountville see our Restaurant Listings.

Yountville Lodging

There are several lodging establishment to choose from. For our pocket book, the best place we found in the Yountville Inn. They have a wonderful breakfast with pastries and other goodies from the Bouchon Bakery. Their rooms are large and very comfortable. There is pool if needed and the grounds are in excellent condition. For more places to stay, go to our Yountville -Napa Valley   Lodging page.

Yountville Wineries

As far as wineries, there are some very close ones that you can get to on the backroads and avoid the traffic. In town, there are a couple of tasting rooms, Hope and Grace Winery and Jessup Cellars and two terrific wine shops, V Wine Cellar and Groezinger Wine Merchants. Within easy riding distance are Domain Chandon, Elyse Winery, and Havens Wine Cellars on the West side of the freeway. North on Washington Street in Yountville are Bell Wine Cellars and the little-known boutique winery, Hopper Creek.

Best winery for a picnic is Robert Sinskey on the Silverado Trail, just south of the Yountville Cross Road. The Bouchon Bakery has sandwiches prepared with their delicious breads that you carry out for a picnic lunch.

Yountville Activities | Things to Do in Yountville

A few other fun things to do: Walk up and take at a look at the French Laundry’s vegetable garden. It is directly across the street from the French Laundry restaurant. Check out the boutique shops in the V Marketplace at Vintage 1870. For exercise, walk or bike ride on Yount Mill Road. It is a quiet road, where you can get some wonderful views of the vineyards and the Vaca Mountains to the east.

Rent a bicycle at Napa Valley Bike Tours at 6488 Washington Street and travel to the backroads to taste wine at a picnic spot.

Visit the Napa Valley Museum, located on the grounds of the Yountville Veterans Home. The museum is small but has an interesting exhibit on the history of the wine country as well as works by local artists. As long as you are on the grounds of the Veterans Home take a ride by car or bike to the cemetery grounds. It is very peaceful and lovely at the top of the cemetery.
