Umbria wine country vacation

This date marks the tenth anniversary of a wine country excursion we took to Italy in May of 2005. We rented the Calboccia farmhouse with two other wine-loving couples. The house sits up on a hill at 500 meters overlooking both Umbria and Tuscany. It’s an ideal location for visiting both Umbria and Tuscany. We knew we were in for a treat when we arrived to the sound of cookoo bird. The wild red poppies dotted the surrounding forest of trees. Umbertide, the nearest town to Calboccia, is two miles down the hill. The main house shown in my photo has two floors, each with a separate entrance with living quarters and a complete kitchen. A second floor door opens the stairway which makes it accommodating when you rent with others. There is also an adjacent smaller house that accommodates two. We traveled daily in our rental cars to various wineries and other attractions. We dined out for lunch daily and cooked our dinners in the Calboccia kitchen. We also hired a cook for an authentic Umbrian meal. That was an amazing meal! You can read about the wineries we visited in our post: Our adventures on the Umbria wine trail. The Calboccia farmhouse is available for rent. We have no connection with the owner, other than the fact that we loved the location and the solitude of the area. There are many farmhouses like this one that can be rented in Umbria as well as Tuscany.
