In Sebastopol Wine Country

Why wine travel to Sebastopol? Because Sebastopol is the gateway to the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, the AVA that produces some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the world. Plus, the city of Sebastopol is very much, to this day, a wine country secret. Lodging rates are still reasonable and there are some very good eats in Sebastopol. Here are my best bets for Sebastopol.

For lodging, the Sebastopol Inn. Great place for joggers or walkers who want to get a morning workout in. The Joe Rodota trail goes for 8 miles or so and you can join the trail in the Sebastopol Inn parking lot.

Best bet for dinner, either K & L Bistro or West County Grill. Best bet for lunch, the Sebastopol Brewing Company, or grab a picnic lunch at the Fiesta Market. Best wineries for a picnic: Martin Ray Winery or Russian Hill Winery. Martin Ray is open daily, but Russian Hill (best view of the Russian River Valley) is open Thursday to Monday. Best activity outside of eating and drinking wine: shop the local vegie farms.

We had breakfast at the Coffee Catz. The coffee is great, but the breakfast choices are meager. Let the Wine Traveler know if you can recommend a good place for breakfast in Sebastopol.

There are many fabulous wineries close by and here is my list of my top choices. I will review some of these wineries in future blogs.

Taft Street Winery
Sebastopol Vineyards
Balletti and Dutton Goldfield tasting room
Martin Ray Winery
Harvest Moon Winery
Inspiration Vineyards
Russian Hill Winery
Hook & Ladder Vineyards

But if you go to any other winery in the area, they are tops as well. This is amazing wine country. Tell us about your favorites in the Sebastopol area.
