Alameda Wine Country
This is the quickest possible wine country getaway from the San
Francisco Oakland Area. You won’t actually see any wine country,
which means no pretty vineyards to view. What you will find is wine
as good as anywhere in California.
R&B
Cellars in Alameda
This is one unique winery. The business and tasting end of the winery is located
in a fantastic Victorian home in Alameda. It is actually the home of Kevin and
Barbara Brown, the owners of this winery. The tasting room, which is their fabulous
dining room is open on a limited basis by appointment. R&B Cellars makes
three absolutely wonderful bargain wines priced at under $12 and one amazing
high-end Cabernet Sauvignon that sells for $60. In our estimation, this wine
knocks the socks off most Cabs that sell for well over $100. The entire wine
production is out sourced at a facility in Sonoma County. Kevin Brown searches
for the perfect grapes and then directs all the winemaking at the Sonoma facility.
Not having a production facility means less overhead and less cost per bottle
for this small winery. This is one reason why R&B Cellars can offer a good
Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah for $12.99 and a Zinfandel for $10.99 |

Cellars
Rosenblum
Cellars
Rosenblum Cellars is one of California's most highly regarded wineries.
One can easily make a half-day tip of visiting this winery. If you are
coming from San Francsico, you have a fantastic option of not driving.
From San Franscisco's landmark Ferry Building, a ferry boat can drop
you 50 yards from Rosenblum. Stock up on cheese or deli items at any
of the artisan shops at the Ferry Buidling and then board the ferry to
Alameda. Rosenblum Cellars makes over 60 different wines. The winery
purchases selected grapes from some of the finest vineyards in California.
These grapes are then produced and bottled as specific vineyard wines.
Zinfandel is their specialty, making several different bottlings. Don't
pass up the Syrahs and the Petit Syrahs, they are also quite delicious. |
