About Us

We started traveling to the wine country when we were in our early twenties, an unbelievable 40 years ago. From our family vacation cabin in Guernewood Park in the Russian River resort area of Sonoma County, we would venture off to Korbel, Simi, Chateau Souverain, and others. We were hooked.

Today, we are retired and are fortunate to be able to travel to the wine country often. Each month we do a one or two-night getaway to the wine country. Frequently, and on the spur of the moment, we decide to getaway for a day trip to the Napa Valley or another nearby wine region. We live on the San Francisco Peninsula so wine country is only about
an hour and half away. Off we go with our picnic basket, camera, and reading materials. We love the wine country.

In June 2003, we launched the Web site Wine Country Getaways. As far as we know it is the only truly unbiased Web wine guide recommending wineries to visit. The site is filled with wine trails in nine California wine regions. We have devised the wine trails by selecting the wineries and routes that we think offer the visitor the best of the California wine country.

Our Blog on the Napa Valley is a great avenue for us to pass along information on this spectacular and historic wine country. The Blog enables us to write experiences that we would not normally post on Wine Country Getaways.

We do not consider ourselves to be wine experts, wine connoisseurs, or journalists. We are just two wine lovers who enjoy the wine country, photography, gourmet food, good fun, and of course wine.
