Wine Country of Sutter Creek

Geyserville - New Wine Town in Sonoma

This little town of 2500 people with a three-block business area has suddenly become a chic wine destination. The town has four wine tasting rooms, two fabulous restaurants, and a handful of unique shops. Geyserville is located in the heart of the seriously underrated Russian River Wine Country. Near the town are plenty of wonderful wineries to visit in the Alexander Valley and Dry Creek wine appellations. This is a terrific weekend escape.

What to Do: Visit Tastings Rooms, Stroll the Shops, Dine

Meeker Vineyards was the first to open a tasting room in the town of Geyserville. It is one of the most unique and interesting tasting rooms in the area and is housed in a 100-year-old building that for many years served as the only bank in Geyserville. The atmosphere is fun, relaxing, and entertaining to say the least. On the next block over is Locals tasting room that features wines from nine wineries from the nearby area.

The new kids on the block are Route 128 Vineyards & Winery and the Terroirs Artisan Wines tasting room, both of which opened in 2008. Route 128 is a 500-case winery owned by husband and wife team of Pete and Lorna Opatz. The name comes from the fact that their vineyards are located on Highway 128 near Cloverdale. The Terroirs Artisan tasting room is located in a remodeled old brick building and is easily the most lavish and elegant of all the tasting rooms in town.  Four different local wineries feature their wines at Terroirs and all have one thing in common, winemaker consultant, Kerry Damskey.

Housed in the same building is the Geyser Arts Gallery. The gallery displays and sells various forms of art work from Northern California. You will be amazed at the outstanding works displayed in this art gallery.

Visit Wineries in the Alexander Valley and the Dry Creek Valley

On your second day, venture out to visit a few of the many wineries in the Alexander Valley or Dry Creek Valley. We suggest you visit a new winery that is close by, the Trione Vineyards & Winery. Follow Geyserville Road south for about one and a quarter miles and you will come to Trione Vineyards & Winery. The Trione Family spent over two years remodeling this winery and it is a stunner. Be sure to visit the “Old Stone Winery” that once housed the old Nervo Winery.
